To say a whole lot would sound like we would be bragging so briefly we will explain why we believe Blake would be a great selection for the Rudy Award.
From the time Blake could walk and carry a ball, he has adored the game of football and basketball. Starting at age 5, he has always been involved with organized sports. Blake was always small for his age but that did not stop him. He played as though he was the biggest on the team never letting that slow him down. Over the years as all his teammates grew taller and bigger, he was still below average for his age. He was determined to have a place on the team so he worked hard continuously year round to improve his skills and stamina to earn his position.
Throughout his High School career he played some on the special teams and as the 2nd string Tailback. Sacrifice is one character which Blake exemplifies. His sophomore year during warm ups he broke his arm. Standing on the sidelines the entire game enduring the pain he said nothing to his teammates or coaches. Afterwards, we were notified by the trainer that he needed to be taken to the hospital for a broken arm. We questioned him about not saying anything earlier and what he would have done if the coaches called him in to play. He said “I would have gone in if they needed me.” The team is his main concern. He never puts himself first.
Between his Jr. / Sr. year he practiced daily, conditioning and working on skills to ensure a starting spot his senior year. This year he secured the starting safety position and has played with determination and pride. He is very committed to his team and would do anything to help out. Blake is a leader both on and off the field, always encouraging and lifting his players and the team up.
Even though Blake is smaller than the average football player, his heart and love for the game of football is larger than you could imagine.
Speaking for ourselves and others who have followed his games, Blake truly exhibits the character of Rudy and is very deserving of the award. Thank you for this great honor to have him nominated.
