Josh was homeschooled up until his sophomore year of high school. So, when he signed up for football, needless to say, he didn't have the experience that any of the other kids had. He was a good-sized kid, but couldn't lift near what it appeared he should be able to in the weight room and his peers really rubbed it in that the "big kid" was only lifting "scrawny" amounts of weight and wasn't able to use his size on the football field.
But Josh never let the jeering waiver his newfound sense of school pride or team spirit. He was not a starter that year or the next, but you could always find him on the sidelines whooping and hollering for the other boys who were starting and playing on their small 8 man football team in the small class C school district. And for that matter, you could also find him at all of his brothers and sisters games and activities supporting them as well.
Now Josh is a senior and he has decided to "have no regrets". By that he means that he is going to play every sport that he possibly can. So, he has joined the baseball and basketball teams, and continues to play on the football team and participate in weightlifting. And, although he continues to be the target of some teasing and harassment from some of the less spirited players, most of them can't help but appreciate his constant grin and unparallel determination to be a part of something greater.
To him, just being a part of the team is enough. He doesn't have to be the hero, he just wants to contribute in any way he can, and to his coaches, its enough. If you were to ask any of them, they wouldn't trade him for the world.
